About Us

I am Annie Maxwell, Trustee and founder of Peace by the Sea as it stands today. If you are interested in joining in any of our events or wish to be part of our community project, please contact me on 07708 172809.

A little about myself. My journey over the past twenty plus years has been one of spiritual emergence and self discovery. I joined Peace by the Sea, or The Church of the Holy Spirit as it was known by then, due to a sudden awakening to the gift of clairvoyance which started a persistent searching for answers which took me to study religions, philosophies and the brain. Obtaining a BSc degree at Open University, I continued to seek through many tried and tested ideas and ideologies both scientific and faith based.

I have also become ordained as a priest, taking a vow to dedicate my life to seeking love, peace, unity and acceptance for all people, including myself.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT US

Peace by the Sea is a Community Project providing a space for meetings, classes and events for Mind, Body & Spiritual activities at affordable prices.

The entire space is available for rental at £15 per hours, The Sanctuary (the back room, with independent access) is available at £5 per hour, including treatment couch if required. Our centre believes in the inclusion of all beliefs and ideologies working together for opportunity and equality. We welcome all to participate in the sanctuary for wellbeing that is Peace by the Sea.

The Whitstable Spiritualist Church

The building which now hosts Peace by the Sea was originally registered as Whitstable Spiritualist Church in the 1960s and remained as such, although changing its name again to Church of the Holy Spirit, until 2018. Having no affiliation to any spiritualist movement, and being left in trust to be ideally a Healing Sanctuary, it was decided due to the rapid decline in numbers and interest in spiritualism, to open up and expand its vision and ethos.

Peace by the Sea

Peace by the Sea, as it is now called, has opened its doors to the wider community, and welcomes all religious and philosophical ideas and theories. Its ideals and mission is to dispel religious prejudices which strive to conquer and divide, but instead provide a community space held together by love and respect for each other whatever our differences. Unity not division, is where true healing can take place.

Plans for the future

The access to the building is currently limited as it is only assessable down an alleyway that is too narrow for wheelchairs. We are currently looking into the viability of creating a main access to the building at the back of the property, to allow access to all in our community. We will keep you updated as to the situation regarding this in due course.

Annie Maxwell

Trustee

I have worked primarily in administration for care, with an interest in mental health and older persons. I have a Bachelor Degree in Science, choosing to focus on the psychology of the brain and its adaptability to physically change with alternative stimulation. As part of the degree, I considered the impact of religious/spiritual interaction in community as a strong hold in positive mental health, and found it overwhelmingly beneficial and quite innate in our human condition.

I continued studying and expanding my experiences in the area of the benefits of community and mental well being and this has been the driving force of my passion to create Peace by the Sea for our local people, our ‘family’.
